Red, White and.... PINK!

Admittedly, it's been awhile since my last blog post >.< Special thanks to Christina for pointing this out to me ;-)  Anywho, to get out of my non-creative funk, I challenged myself to some challenges (redundant much?  *shrug*) and i'm just tickled with the results!

This card is my entry into "The Colors of Love" challenge from one of my favorite places to shop, Flourishes.  This particular call asked us to create something with the colors of ... duh,  love!  Namely Red, White and Pink.

More on this card in just a bit... first, allow me to walk you through my creative process.  Full disclosure here, when I first saw the 'Red, White and Pink' guidelines, I said to myself "Self - you love red, and you love pink, so this should be easy!"  Little did I know that my brain would actually rebel against trying to put these colors together into a cohesive card -_-

I found myself designing a card that was predominantly pink and brown (brown?  srsly?  THAT's not a color of love!), and for the red, I told myself i'd just toss on a red flower or something.  Said card now has a pink flower on it because the red looked absolutely. positively. horrid.

Anywho, it was back to the old drawing board for this gal.  What I thought would be a walk in the park, actually turned into quite a... dare I say... challenge.  As it turns out, I was completely and totally overthinking this (happens alot, I assure you -_-), and discovered the answer in my bottomless stash of patterned papers.

This card is a hodgepodge of phat loot from my craft room.  The patterned paper covering the top and middle is Stampin Up's Bella Rose line,  The green swirly stamp in the background is from Inkadinkado (stamped in Momento Pear Tart), Velvet flowers from 7 Gypsies, Green leaf ribbon from MayArts, and Bling is from Prima.  From PTI, we have the "Love"stamp (mini mixed messages), white flourish stamp (Mat Stack 1 Collection), and Spring Moss cardstock. The Distressed stripes are by Hero Arts and are done in Bamboo Leaves momento ink.  The entire card is framed in Riding Hood Red cardstock and mounted on a white, textured cardstock card base.

Mix in a dash of die-cutting, a smidge of punching, a sprinkle of embossing and a smattering of head-scratching and voila!  Red, white and Pink!

I have to say, it's incredibly refreshing to be able to pull something together from so many different manufacturers and have it 'work'.  It actually gives me hope that one day i'll use up everything in my stash *smile*
